A 45-year-old woman was arrested and more than a dozen gaming machines, cash and suspected narcotics were seized in a raid on an illegal gambling establishment in the Tenderloin, San Francisco police said Friday.

The woman, Trang Thuy Thanh Tran of Oakland, was accused of operating the establishment in the 700 block of Ellis Street after officers executed a search warrant Thursday afternoon, police said. Several other adults were detained, according to police.

In addition to the gambling machines, officers seized a loaded firearm, over $3,000 in cash, suspected drugs and equipment used for the sales of narcotics, police said.

The San Francisco Sheriff's Office and the Army National Guard Counterdrug Taskforce assisted in the operation, police said.

Oakland police are investigating two homicides that took place about a year apart as possibly connected and are asking for the public's help with leads.

Police said on Saturday that multiple suspects are connected to the homicide of Henry Texada and DeShawn Rhoades.

Texada was shot and killed on April 28, 2020 in the 2900 block of 68th Avenue. A gray 2020 Nissan Armada without license plates was seen pulling up to Texada before multiple people got out and shot him. He was 23 years old.

The vehicle was later recovered and determined to be a rental car from Reno, Nevada.

Rhoades was also killed by gunshots on June 19, 2021 in the 2200 block of Lakeshore Avenue.

Anyone with information about either case is asked to contact the Oakland Police Department's Homicide Section at (510) 238-3821 or the department's tip line at (510) 238-7950.

BART trains system-wide were significantly delayed on Saturday morning because of a stalled train and track maintenance. Trains started running again at slow speeds after nearly two hours of service impacts.

Service on the Green and Red Lines was impacted at about 11 a.m. and was restored by 11:48 a.m., according to a BART advisory.

Trains were first stalled because of a disabled train on the San Francisco Line between Glen Park and Balboa Park stations just before 10 a.m.

Trains were running at slower speeds because of the wet weather.

More than 100 Santa Clara County seniors struggling with the cost of living will have a place to call home in downtown San Jose within the next few years.

The San Jose City Council unanimously approved a roughly $15.2 million loan Tuesday for Hawthorn Senior Apartments, a 100% affordable housing development with 101 homes for low-income and formerly unhoused older adults and two managers' apartments. The four-story project, developed by the Santa Clara County Housing Authority, will sit on 1.1 acres at 118 and 124 N. 15th St.

The project will house older adults ages 55 and up making between 30% and 50% of Santa Clara County's median income -- roughly $126,900 for one person in 2023, according to state housing department data. Approximately 47 apartments will receive federal rental assistance vouchers for at least 20 years, with 21 reserved for older adults facing chronic homelessness.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta on Friday announced a $273 million multistate settlement with New Jersey-based Amneal Pharmaceutical for the drug manufacturer's alleged failure to report suspicious opioid orders, and as a consequence contributing to the opioid epidemic.

If the name "Amneal Pharmaceuticals" rings a bell, it's because just days earlier Gov. Gavin Newsom and state health officials announced a deal with this same company to procure naloxone, the overdose reversal medication, at a cheaper price than currently available. That agreement locks that state in as a long-term customer to the company.

Under the opioid settlement agreement that is yet to be finalized, Amneal will pay states a total of $92.5 million in cash and $180 million in naloxone products over a 10-year period.
