Chinese School of San Diego helps clean La Jolla Shores beach

The Chinese School of San Diego helped celebrate Earth Day this year by captaining a cleanup site at La Jolla Shores beach to collect trash and recyclables during I Love A Clean San Diego's Creek to Bay Cleanup on April 20.

In the three hours of The Shores cleanup, more than 120 volunteers collected 47 pounds of materials, slightly higher than last year's 46.6 pounds, according to Chinese School Principal Cassandra Wong, a La Jolla resident.

Members of other area organizations joined students, teachers and parents from the school in scouring the beach with gloves, plastic bags, buckets and garbage grabbers.

All told, nearly 4,000 volunteers collected 71,301 pounds of trash, 1,471 pounds of recyclables and 14,810 pounds of green waste at about 100 locations throughout San Diego County during the Creek to Bay Cleanup, Wong said.
