Conflict arises over $23 million cut to homeless services in San Diego

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — With an almost $137 million budget deficit, the City of San Diego is cutting costs. This includes cuts to homeless services.

Though they are reported to be one-time-only cuts, the San Diego Housing Commission is being impacted with $23 million slated to come out of its budget, slashing funds to these services. This is something the housing commission’s board isn’t happy about.

Now, the city’s independent budget analyst is weighing in on this, just one week before the city council scheduled hearings on how San Diego is going to spend its money in 2024 through 2025.

Having said that, the commission’s proposed budget and the city’s proposed budget have largely aligned in the past. However, the budget analyst said it now includes notably differences.
