Guardians acquire pitcher in trade with Padres

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WKBN) – The Cleveland Guardians have officially acquired pitcher Pedro Avila in a trade with the Padres.

He is expected to join the major league club in the next several days.

In exchange, San Diego receives cash considerations.

The 27-year-old was designated for assignment by San Diego on April 12.

The right-hander has appeared in four games this season for San Diego, posting a record of 1-0 with a 9.00 ERA.

In eight innings with the Padres this season, he has pitched a total of eight innings, allowing eight earned runs with nine strikeouts.

In five seasons in Major League Baseball, Avila has a career record of 3-3 with a 3.77 ERA.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Guardians have transferred infielder Angel Martinez to the 60-day injured list with a fractured left hand.
