San Diego Billboard Campaign Asks People to ‘Eat Differently’
Advocates of a plant-based diet launched a major advertising campaign in the Greater San Diego area Tuesday featuring 29 billboards that will be displayed for three months. In what organizers are calling one of the largest such campaigns ever produced, the “Eat Differently” billboards will feature luminaries who have spoken out about eating a plant-forward diet.
ElleVet Project provides free veterinary care for low-income and unhoused pet owners
SAN DIEGO — The ElleVet Project is on the San Diego leg of its national tour, providing free veterinary care to help out low-income and unhoused pet owners. “I’m Dr. Brian, so I’ll be helping Princess out today,” said Dr. Brian Hranek, a local veterinarian, as he greeted an elderly client and her dog. The nonprofit set up a makeshift veterinary care station Monday in downtown San Diego on 17th Street at the San Diego Day Center, operated by Father Joe’s Villages.

SAN DIEGO — Dozens of desert tortoises are getting a second chance to thrive in the wild. The tiny tortoises represent big hopes for the people who take care of them. Last summer, new hatchlings and eggs of desert tortoises were evacuated when an intense heat wave in the region put them at risk. Biologists have found that young desert tortoises cannot develop normally at nest burrow temperatures above 95.5 degrees Fahrenheit.
