Update: One dead after vehicle accident in Salem

Update: Officials have now confirmed that one individual has died following a two-vehicle accident in Salem.

Officials were originally dispatched to the scene at 12:08 p.m. The accident occurred on 65 US Highway 50 East.

Officials also confirmed that the road has reopened.

SALEM, W.Va. (WBOY) — A two-vehicle accident on US 50 has resulted in a lane closure and injuries.

Officials responded to the accident near the Go-Mart on Jacobs Run Road at 12:08 p.m. According to 511 WV the Eastbound lane of 50 Northwestern Turnpike is currently closed.

Officials could not confirm how many were injured in the crash but did confirm that a dog was present in one of the vehicles and that Harrison County Animal Control was called to the scene to assist.

A West Virginia Medical Examiner, along with the West Virginia Division of Highways, Anmoore and Salem Fire Departments, Salem City EMS, Harrison County EMS and the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the call.

The Harrison County Sheriff’s Department is investigating.
