Centralia woman airlifted to St. Louis hospital for treatment following Green Street Road crash
A 23-year-old Centralia woman was airlifted from the scene of a Wednesday afternoon single-vehicle crash on Green Street Road to a St. Louis Hospital for treatment. Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies say the vehicle driven by Krimsen Hufstedler of South Lincoln in Centralia ran off the road, struck a power pole, and overturned on its top.
Salem man held on charges connected to early morning stabbing
SALEM — A 39-year-old Salem man is in the Marion County Jail in connection with an early Friday morning stabbing in Salem. According to Salem Police Chief Kyle Ambuehl, officers responded just after midnight Friday to MotoMart on West Main Street in Salem, where they found a 39-year-old man with an apparent knife wound to the back of his head. United Medical transported the man to Salem Township Hospital for treatment.
17-year-old Salem juvenile boy injured in South Hotze Road crash
A 17-year-old Salem juvenile boy was injured after crashing into a power pole late Thursday afternoon on South Hotze Road near Andrews Court. Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies say the juvenile told them he looked down to take a drink and when he looked up the power pole was in front of him. The crash sheared off the power pole and the live power lines fell across his SUV.
Two injured when semi collided with mini-van on Kinmundy Road
State Police have released preliminary information on a crash involving a semi and a car on Kinmundy Road just south of Prairie Road in rural Kinmundy. Reports indicate the semi-truck was making a right-hand turn into a field when for unknown reasons the driver of the minivan attempted to pass on the right and struck the cab of the truck.
Two injured in crash at US 51 and Red Stripe Road south of Sandoval
Two people were injured in a pickup truck-car crash on US 51 at the Red Stripe Road intersection south of Sandoval early Friday night. The Marion County Sheriff’s Department reports the pickup driven by 26-year-old Seth Hoffman of Beckemeyer was westbound on Red Stripe Road when he failed to stop at the stop sign and his truck was hit in the passenger side by a southbound car driven by 43-year-old Robin Burton of East Robin Road in Mt. Vernon.
Fire destroys garage/workshop in Salem; owner burned trying to put out fire
A fire destroyed a 20-by-60-foot garage and workshop building at the Melvin Minor home at 915 South Franklin Street in Salem late Wednesday afternoon. Salem Assistant Fire Chief Bill Fulton says Minor had been welding at his workbench and it is believed a spark may have set off a fire that wasn’t visible at the time. Minor reportedly found the fire when returning outside later in the north end of the building. He initially attempted to put it out with a garden hose and caught his shirt on fire in the process. By the time firemen arrived, the fire had spread throughout the building and flames were shooting from the windows.

16-year-old juvenile injured in Kinmundy crash
A 16-year-old juvenile boy was injured Wednesday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Kinmundy Road at the Kingshighway intersection in Kinmundy. Kinmundy Police say the juvenile was traveling at too great a speed when he ran off the side of the Kinmundy Road, struck a power pole and a street sign, then crossed Kingshighway and hit a mailbox and a second power pole before his pickup came to a stop in the street.

Fire in Irvington burns 40 to 45 acres of corn stubble
Five fire departments and two tractor-implements battled a corn stubble field fire in Irvington on Tuesday afternoon. Irvington Fire Chief Andy McDaniel says the fire spread from the village burn pile and was fueled by the wind. He reports no buildings were ever endangered and there was no crop loss since all the corn in the fields was already cut.
