The Centralia Orphans put together 4 solid quarters of football Friday night and beat the visiting Marion Wildcats 43-20 on Homecoming Night at Evers Field. Marion would get on the board first after 36 yard TD reception by Patrick Walker, 2 point conversion failed and it was 6-0 Wildcats halfway through the opening quarter. It will be a busy weekend at the Iron Saddle as the IPRA-sanctioned pro rodeo returns for a second year. IPRA rodeo, and queens crowned this weekend in Salem
SALEM — Iron Saddle in Salem will be hosting their own IPRA-sanctioned pro rodeo this weekend. The event is recognized as a Top Five Best New Rodeo Venue by the International Professional Rodeo Association. The two-day event will feature both the Miss Rodeo USA and Miss Teen Rodeo USA in attendance to carry the flag.
SIJHSAA State Tournaments Begin Today
Today is the opening of the SIJHSAA State Baseball and Softball Tournaments. Centralia’s Rotary Park will host the Class L Tournaments. The baseball tournament starts at 10 a.m. with Marion and Carterville followed by Waterloo and Belleville Whiteside at 11, DuQuoin and Benton play at noon with Olney and Breese finishing up first round play at 1.
GHS Girls Tennis Falls To Salem
The Lady Comets girl’s tennis team at Greenville High School was defeated Tuesday by Salem. The final team score was 7-2. Accounting for the Greenville points were Ellie Schaufelberger in number one singles, and Eden Kapp and Schaufelberger in number one doubles.
Stroud Advances To Sectionals In Loaded Regional
The Salem Wildcats competed at the Centralia 2a golf regional yesterday with only Senior Jairen Stroud advancing as an individual to Mt Carmel for Sectional play on Monday following his 79 that was good for a 9th place tie. Columbia’s Jacob Hall and Breese Central’ Konnor Kueper shot 72s to win the regional.

WMIX Sports salutes this week’s Josh Finley Country Financial Rams of the Week: Ava Wheeler, Xander Ashby, and Eli Piper. All three earned All-South Seven Conference honors this season! The Lady Rams’ Wheeler shot a 6th place 105 to earn her medal and help lead the girls to a 4th place finish at Greenview Golf Club in Centralia. The Rams saw Ashby claim second place in the conference tournament with an 84 while Piper finished fourth with his 87 at Kokopelli in Marion. The Rams as a team would finish 3rd.
