Police in St. Paul have fatally shot a woman during an incident Monday evening.

St. Paul Police Department says its officers were called just before 7:30 p.m to the 1100 block of Rose Avenue East to a report of a suicide in progress, which culminated in officers fatally shooting the woman.

According to an early Tuesday morning statement from the department, when officers arrived a person at the home "yelled for them to come inside" and they were directed to a room at the rear of the property.

Per police: "Officers were speaking to an adult woman and trying to determine how to help her, when the woman produced a handgun and pointed it at officers. Officers fired their duty weapons, striking the woman."

The woman was given lifesaving aid at the scene, with St. Paul Fire Department medics also responding, but she was ultimately pronounced dead.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has been brought in to investigate, as is customary in the event of police shootings.

The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave. More details are expected to be released in the coming days.

No officers were injured in the incident, the department says.

This is a developing story. The details provided in this story are based on law enforcement’s latest version of events, and may be subject to change.
