ST. LOUIS – A mother of two was begging for help when her apartment from the East St. Louis Housing Authority was overrun by mice.

Videos show the mice scouring the cupboard where Reevyn Sanders kept food.

“The mice come through this hole right here,” she said. “My baby has got to live here… I got to stay here with my two kids under 5.”

Sanders had been dealing with the issue and asking for help for more than a year.

“They run across me; I done felt them run across my skin,” she said.

FOX 2 reached out to Theresa Johnson, the acting director of the East St. Louis Housing Authority. She stated that they hired two vendors to exterminate mice and pest infestations.

“We’re always looking for ways to improve,” Johnson said. “It’s unacceptable, I wouldn’t want to live like that, so it’s unacceptable.”

After discussion, Sanders was moved to a new apartment, giving the family a fresh start.

“Everything new, everything clean, it looks nice,” Sanders said. “I feel good.”
