UPDATE: The school has been released for the day; however, authorities are still searching for the suspect.

ST. GEORGE, S.C. (WCBD) – A school in St. George was placed in a ‘secure’ status on Monday afternoon amid a search for a suspect nearby.

The wanted person ran into woods near Williams Memorial Elementary School on S Metts Street, officials said.

“Due to police activity near Williams Memorial Elementary, the school has been placed in a secure action which means students will remain inside while law enforcement surveys the area. The school will remain in a secure action until given permission to dismiss from law enforcement,” said officials with Dorchester District 4.

The suspect is wanted on several warrants by different agencies.
