Columbia's holiday kickoff Nov. 7 among things to do this month
November brings the start of holiday season in Boone County and Columbia. While Thanksgiving anchors the end of the month, celebrations and events related to Christmas also are beginning to pop up around the area. The Downtown Community Improvement District, for instance, will hold its holiday shop hop, holiday lighting and horse drawn carriage ride kick off all day Nov. 7. Carriage rides start 4 p.m. in the North Village Arts District next to Fretboard Coffee & Wishflour Bakery. There are a limited number of ride tickets available, but carriage rides will be available Saturdays through Dec. 19. The holiday shop hop is an all-day event and will include special offers from favorite downtown retailers, along with complimentary refreshments. It's a chance to get a jump start on Christmas gift shopping. There are plenty more activities, along with concerts and other events in November. Event listings are not comprehensive, were accurate as of Oct. 23 and are subject to change. Concerts, stand-up comedy, performing arts The Blue Note at 17 N. Ninth St. and sister venue Rose Music Hall at 1013 Park Ave. welcome a variety of acts each month. Be sure to check their respective calendars for dates, times
