MHS GRADUATION: Class of 2024 ‘built strong connections'
MONTICELLO — With packed stands of bleachers cheering them on, the 338 members of Monticello High School’s Class of 2024 turned the tassels on their caps from right to left Friday evening, stepping forward into a new chapter of their lives. Maple Grove Lions Club award scholarships to graduating high school seniors
The Maple Grove Lions have announced this year’s winners of the Maple Grove Lions Club/Dick Reimer Scholarships for the class of 2024. A total of $35,000 has been awarded to graduating seniors who reside in Maple Grove, including one $5,000 scholarship and 20 $1,500 scholarships to be used for tuition at a university, college or trade school this fall. Those receiving scholarships include Abegayle Ahlquist, Jiaa Bartake, Jedd Fehr, Camryn Goodman, Quinn Haik, Bennett Hoffman, Megan Holmgren, Farsen Ismaiel, Anthony Jerrick, Hannah Kuhn, Justin Kuharski, Chloe Lamothe, Jake Mattson, Katherine Migely, Riley Mildebrandt, Maria Jose Plotts, Reece Runyon, Harriet Sandager, Nitish Shirodkar, Nathan Stienessen, and Kiet Troung. The Maple Grove Lions Club/Dick Reimer scholarship is named after one of the original charter members of the Maple Grove Lions Club and first mayor of Maple Grove. Proceeds from the Lion’s many fundraising projects are used to provide scholarships as well as many other community service projects.
Armstrong graduate named ‘Distinguished Teacher’
Lauren Nelson graduated from Robbinsdale Armstrong High School in 2005. Today, Nelson teaches Russian at Noble’s Pritzker College Prep in Chicago, which is honoring Nelson as a Distinguished Teacher. These elite educators receive a $10,000 award on top of base salary each year for the duration of employment as a teacher at Noble, professional development opportunities specific to Distinguished Teachers and participation in the selection of future Distinguished Teachers. Distinguished Teachers apply for the program by submitting written narratives and a portfolio of artifacts including comprehensive data. Finalists then participate in classroom observations and debriefs, student surveys, a panel interview and reference checks over the course of several months.
