SEPTA Delaware trains restored after Amtrak hits person in Pennsylvania

SEPTA's Wilmington/Newark Regional Rail line is restored after an Amtrak train struck a person in Pennsylvania earlier in the afternoon. A SEPTA spokesperson said an Amtrak train struck a person around Glenolden, Pennsylvania, in Delaware County around 1:30 p.m. Nov. 4. Since then, SEPTA service on the Wilmington/Newark Line was suspended while Amtrak investigated the incident, but service is restored. Amtrak trains are operating on a heavy delay, according to their schedules between Wilmington and Philadelphia as of 3 p.m. The only direct alternate route to Delaware that is not a train to or from Philadelphia is the 113 bus from Claymont Transit Center. (This story is updated to reflect that SEPTA service is restored). This article originally appeared on Delaware News Journal: SEPTA Delaware trains restored after Amtrak hits person in Pennsylvania

I-80 eastbound on-ramp at Bellefonte to stay closed into late November

Bellefonte, Pa. — The Interstate 80 eastbound on-ramp at Exit 161 in Bellefonte, closed since Oct. 12, will stay closed until the third week of November, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said. PennDOT had expected the contractor on the I-80/I-99 High-Speed Interchange project to reopen the ramp by the end of October, but the reopening was delayed because of unforeseen circumstances, according to the department. While the ramp remains closed, traffic on Interstate 99 heading to I-80 eastbound will take Jacksonville Road to the westbound on-ramp at Exit 161 and follow the detour back to I-80 eastbound at Milesburg. The closure was put in place to prepare for directing traffic onto the newly completed bridge over Jacksonville Road, PennDOT said. The High-Speed Interchange will provide a direct connection between the two interstates, so drivers will no longer have to travel along Route 26 to reach them. Work includes building the interchange, 10 bridges, four retaining walls, five box culverts, seven sign structures and three changeable message boards, along with new and rebuilt roadways and ramps, drainage, lighting and stream improvements. Trumbull Corp. of Pittsburgh is the contractor on the $259 million project, which is expected to continue through the next

What do Shapiro and Garrity think of higher gas prices?

(The Center Square) – Gov. Josh Shapiro and State Treasurer Stacy Garrity agree: gasoline prices are too high in Pennsylvania. However, they cite different factors contributing to current prices and offer different solutions. “Let's be very clear: gas is at almost $4.50 a gallon because of a war in Iran that we had no business getting into, Trump's got no earthly idea how to get out of, and my opponent has supported it every step of the way,” Shapiro said in response to a question from The Center Square on Sunday. “Notwithstanding that it's left 21 American families with an empty seat at the dinner table, notwithstanding the fact that, the average Pennsylvania family is paying about 1,000 bucks more just in energy costs because of this war.” In continuing his case, Shapiro said the Trump administration has to end the war in Iran, which would open the Strait of Hormuz. “That will bring down gas prices,” he said. Garrity said it is “ridiculous” that neighboring states like Ohio, Maryland, New Jersey, and New York have cheaper gas, while describing Pennsylvania as the “Saudi Arabia” of natural gas. If elected governor, Garrity said she would pause the gas tax until

I-80 lane closures begin in Clinton County for joint repairs

Greene Township, Pa. — Joint-sealing work on Interstate 80 eastbound and westbound between mile markers 185 and 195 in Greene Township, Clinton County, bgean Monday, Nov. 2, PennDOT announced. The contractor will set up traffic control to close the left (passing) lane in both directions Monday, Nov. 2 and Tuesday, Nov. 3. Joint repairs will begin Wednesday, Nov. 4. PennDOT expects the contractor to finish the repairs and reopen all lanes before Thanksgiving, though schedules are subject to change because of weather or other circumstances. The work will improve ride quality and extend the service life of nearly 10 miles of I-80. All work is in Clinton County, but some work zone signage along the westbound lanes will be placed in Union County. Drivers are urged to use caution in work zones, obey posted speed limits and signage, avoid following trucks delivering material into the closed lane and always buckle up. The joint sealing is part of a larger project that will carry over into the 2027 construction season, when crews will do patching, surface preparation and apply a thin coat of material. PennDOT will issue an update before that work begins. Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. of State College is

CATA Proposes Service Changes in Response to Driver Shortage

The Centre Area Transportation Authority is proposing service reductions it says are needed because of a driver shortage affecting transit systems nationwide. Changes to five bus routes would go into effect on Jan. 11, pending a public hearing Nov. 9 and approval by the CATA Board on Nov. 16, according to a new release on Monday. “Service adjustments are always frustrating, but the proposed modifications are the most responsible step we can take to ensure that CATA continues to provide safe, reliable and sustainable service,” CATA CEO Todd Horsley said in a statement. “Public transit providers across North America are experiencing significant workforce shortages. CATA’s bus drivers enable the high level of first-class transit service that the community expects. Our drivers are the best in the business, but we need more of them.” Service adjustments are proposed for the following routes. • AC (Atherton Connector) - Reduce service frequency Monday through Thursday to every 45 minutes from the current 30-32 minutes; - End service from Monday through Saturday at 8 p.m. instead of the current 10 p.m. • CC (College Connector) - Reduce Sunday service to every 60 minutes from the current 30 minutes. - End Sunday service at 10

Shiloh Road to See Millions in Traffic Improvements as Development Grows

With a hotel already under construction, hundreds of new residential units planned and other development in the works, the Shiloh Road corridor is preparing for major changes. And with that growth comes more traffic. As construction projects continue across Centre County, state and local officials gathered Friday for a press conference to highlight more than $3.6 million in state funding for road improvements along Shiloh Road in College and Benner townships. Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Secretary Mike Carroll joined local officials, legislators and developers to discuss the project, along with other transportation investments throughout the region. The improvements come as traffic along the corridor is expected to increase significantly with new residential and commercial development. According to estimates shared by College Township officials last year , average daily vehicle trips on Shiloh Road could increase from 13,250 to 44,074 once developments in the corridor are fully built out, a process that could take a decade or longer. "But that growth requires a transportation network that's safe and efficient," Carroll said. "And so improvements were necessary in this corridor."
