    Hononegah wins rubber match with Harlem to win regional championship

    MACHESNEY PARK, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — Hononegah and Harlem split their two regular season meetings in softball, but Hononegah won the rubber match Saturday at the Harlem Community Center 10-2 and with it, the Indians also won a class 4A regional championship.

    Aislynn Palmer was the winning pitcher. She struck out 13 batters. Natalie Kinney and Zoey Calhoun both blasted home runs for the Indians. Kaelyn Kelly added two hits and two RBIs, and Mackenzi Haas had a pair of hits including a double.

    Harlem starting pitcher Alaina Schwanke slammed a home run for the Huskies.

    Hononegah advances to the Barrington Sectional. The Indians will play Barrington Tuesday at 6:30. The other semifinal game at the sectional Tuesday has Rockford Auburn playing Huntley. That’s a 4:30 start.
