Rockford man charged with domestic battery, property damage

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police arrested Darryl Rogers, 32, for domestic battery and property damage among other charges.

On May 15th, around 2:23 a.m., police responded to the 2400 block of Holmes Street for a domestic incident. Upon arrival, officials saw the victim come out of the house and she said Rogers was still in the residence.

The woman told authorities the suspect knocked at her door and when she answered it he pushed the door in. Once inside, Rogers grabbed her by the neck area and led her to the bathroom, according to court records.

The suspect pinned her up against the wall by the neck, in the process breaking a metal towel rod, the victim told police. The woman explained to authorities he let her go, she went to grab her phone and he smacked it away.

Rogers proceeded to take her by the neck, walked her into her bedroom and pinned her against the wall, according to court documents.

When officials arrived, the suspect locked himself inside the house after the victim left, police said. Authorities retrieved the keys from the woman and went to the side door to prevent him from leaving, according to court records.

Police said they cleared the house and found Rogers struggling with a deputy on the side of the house. According to officials, they were able to take him into custody.

Rogers is being charged with domestic battery and physical contact, interfering with reporting domestic violence, criminal trespassing to a residence while a person is present, criminal damage to property and resisting an officer.
