    Weekend events happening in the Stateline for everyone to enjoy

    ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — It is the first week in May and events are happening across the Stateline for everyone.

    Special Olympics

    Special Olympics is holding its spring games and soccer qualifier at Harlem High School. Hundreds of athletes from across Northern Illinois will be taking part. Qualifiers will then head to the State Special Olympic Games.

    Sarver Children’s Farm Barn

    Lockwood Park invites the community out to the country, for its opening day. On May 4th, the Sarver Children’s Farm Barn opens. The farm has a petting zoo, baby chicks and there will be Kentucky Derby-themed games. Admission to the park on Safford Road is free.

    North End City Market

    North End City Markey will have a soft opening on the morning of May 4th. The market is at the corner of North Main and Auburn Streets. Marketgoers can shop for fresh fruits veggies, honey and baked goods. The market is right around the corner from the Edgewater and Churchhill Grove neighborhoods, which are having their annual garage sales on May 4th as well. The Market will be open Saturday mornings through October.

    Purple Heart Memorial Dedication

    Local veterans are hosting a Purple Heart Memorial dedication on May 4th. The award is the oldest medal in the military. Originally known as the “Badge of Military Merit”, it goes to all those hurt or killed by enemy action in the line of duty. The dedication is at 10 a.m. at the LZ Peace Memorial at Midway Village.
