LOVES PARK, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford’s longstanding Capri Restaurant, which was damaged in a fire in October 2022, is moving ahead with plans to relocate to Loves Park.

The Italian restaurant had been a staple of downtown Rockford since 1964 when a fire broke out on October 27th, 2022.

Officials said the employees were preparing to open the restaurant when a fire broke out in one of the pizza ovens.

Loves Park Mayor Greg Jury confirmed in late November that the Grisanzio family, which owns Capri, bought a vacant Shell gas station at 6480 E. Riverside Blvd.

Now, on Friday, May 3rd, a message on the Capri Restaurant’s Facebook page read: “Just received word: ALL PERMITS APPROVED!! More to follow on a projected opening date. We are coming soon!”

In early April, the restaurant announced it was hiring for its new location .
