ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford University is encouraging alumni, faculty, students, and the community will help them raise $200,000 in 24 hours.

Money raised in the annual “Day of Giving” fundraiser will be used to renovate the Howard Colman Library, with new lighting, furniture, carpets, and technology upgrades.

The full cost of the project is expected to cost more than $3 million. The “Day of Giving” funds would pay for the first floor renovations.

“Students have different needs than they did in 1966,” explained Linda Sandquist, Vice President of Advancement and Alumni. “They’re bringing their cell phones. They’re bringing their laptops. They actually study differently and use different resources than they did many years ago. So, we think it’s really important that our students here have the most updated technology and updated space they possibly can so that they truly can be successful here at Rockford University and then when they graduate.”

In 2023, the Day of Giving raised $131,841 from 415 donors.

This year, Rockford University is hoping for 425 donors to come forward.

The 2024 fundraiser closed with $133,865 raised.
