ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Two men pleaded guilty Thursday in connection to a fatal 2023 shooting in a Rochester parking lot.

Police said Eric Martin Jr., 21, was dropping off a family member at work on May 31 when someone fired more than a dozen shots into the Dewey Avenue plaza from a stolen Kia. Martin was shot in the head and did not survive.

Kirsean Chatfield and Keyvin Miller pleaded guilty to manslaughter Thursday.

Prosecutors said Miller, 19, fired the fatal gunshots. Chatfield, 27, was the driver. Martin was not their intended target. Shortly after the shooting, police called him “a truly innocent person in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

According to investigators, Miller and Chatfield stole a second car immediately after the homicide, drove to Parsells Avenue, and shot at a storefront.

Chatfield was caught in June, 2023, when police pulled him over and found the weapon used in the fatal shooting.

Prosecutors said Miller would be sentenced to 25 years in prison on June 26. Chatfield will be sentenced to 15 years on June 13.
