ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A man pleaded guilty to threatening to shoot Monroe County leaders and law enforcement, including Rochester Mayor Malik Evans.

Adam Schadt admitted in court he was behind a threat aimed at police and leaders in Monroe County and the City of Rochester.

On August 23, 2022, Schadt sent two emails to Monroe County Sheriff Todd Baxter and Rochester Police Chief David Smith. Attached to the emails was a picture of a note threatening to shoot them that week.

Later in January 2023, Schadt sent emails to Sheriff Baxter and Chief Smith, along with Mayor Malik Evans and Monroe County Executive Adam Bello. These emails also threatened them and their families.

In court, Schadt admitted that he sent those messages while he was in Maryland. He also confessed he intended for those emails to be threats. He pleaded guilty to two counts of making a threat by interstate communication.

The maximum sentence for each violation is five years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and supervised release for up to three years.

Bello released a statement following Schadt’s guilty plea:

I thank the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Maryland State Police, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Rochester Police and all other involved law enforcement agencies for the diligent work that led to the arrest of this dangerous individual. I’m grateful to the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of New York for securing this plea agreement, which protects public safety and will ensure Mr. Schadt faces serious consequences for his actions.

Evans also released a statement, saying:

“It is my hope that the negotiated plea agreement that was secured ensures that Mr. Schadt is held accountable for his criminal behavior. I am grateful to the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Maryland State Police, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, and the Rochester Police Department for their meticulous work to bring Mr. Schadt to justice and for their protection of the citizens of Rochester.”
