ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — An officer was hit by a stolen car on South Goodman Avenue Tuesday morning, according to the Rochester Police Department.

Officers said they were dispatched for the report of a group of people arriving on South Goodman Avenue and breaking into cars. They said while approaching those individuals, the suspects got into the Kia and drove into an officer. He hit by the door of the vehicle and was taken to a nearby hospital for a non-life-threatening injury. He has since been treated and released.

RPD chased the vehicle throughout the city. After around 20 minutes, the car crashed into a house in the area of Dewey Avenue and Emerson Street. They said all five suspects got out and ran, but three were detained.

Officers said the rest of the suspects ran into a house on Locust Street. After surrounding the house, the two suspects were found in the basement and were taken into custody.

An investigation revealed the suspected vehicle hit two houses on Curtis Street, causing minor damage. The Kia also had ignition damage. The owner of the vehicle was contacted.

“This is an example of where the community really has to come together to work with how to figure out keeping young people at home when they should be home,” said Mayor Evans.

Charges have now been filed against the five teenagers:

The 16-year-old driver is charged with reckless endangerment second, criminal possession of stolen property third, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, third. He was transported to Monroe County Family Court.

A16-year old passenger is charged with attempted grand larceny third, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle third. He was transported to Monroe County Family Court.

Three other passengers, 12 and 17-year-old girls along with a 15-year-old boy, have been charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle third and issued appearance tickets.
