Winona scraps bike bridge for Riverfront Trail, citing rising costs
A bridge over the Winona Marina is no longer in the cards for the city of Winona’s planned Riverfront Trail, even with $5 million in state funding. For years, the city has been planning a pedestrian and bicycle trail from Levee Park to Lion’s Park, and a bridge over the marina was a planned feature to avoid diverting the trail away from the river. In the years planning the project, Development Coordinator Nick Larson said inflation has caused the bridge’s cost to greatly increase to $10-15 million. Now the city is instead planning to construct a ground-level trail through the marina. The city’s plans are under federal review, and Larson said construction may commence next July or August.

ROCHESTER, Minn. — Repairs will begin Thursday on the 85th Street bridge over Highway 52 north of Rochester.
