Westbound lanes are now open after traffic on Interstate 70 was at a standstill Tuesday evening after a semi-truck caught fire near the Missouri River Bridge, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Boone County Joint Communications sent a notification about the fire at 8:55 p.m.

“Troopers are investigating a tractor trailer fire on westbound I-70, on the west end of the Missouri River Bridge, just inside Cooper County,” MSHP Troop F tweeted. “Both westbound lanes are blocked and traffic is being diverted north onto Route BB at the 115 MM.”

The Missouri Department of Transportation wrote on its Gateway Guide that the westbound lanes were closed.

MSHP spokesman Kyle Green told ABC 17 News that the fire continued to burn because the truck was carrying whiskey.
