Riverton's Kelci Locke signs with Pitt State track and field

RIVERTON, Kan. -- Riverton High School senior Kelci Locke signs with Pittsburg State on Tuesday afternoon to continue her track and field career.

Locke set the Riverton High School records in both shot put and discus throw.

Her head coach and athletic director attribute Locke's hard work for getting her to the point of becoming a collegiate athlete.

Locke says she had not thought she would be capable of competing in track & field at Pittsburg State. However, once the opportunity to become a Gorilla arose, she did not think of going anywhere else.

"Two years ago if you would have asked me 'are you wanting to go to college for throwing?'" Locke says. "I would have been like 'I don't know if I can make it.'"

"I worked so hard this summer for this," Locke continues. "[Pitt State] was at the top of my list because their track program is awesome. I knew if I could secure [an offer from] them... it was just exciting."
