RISING SUN — Some used worms, others tried lures or spinners but it seems the fish didn’t care for the rain any more than did the anglers in the Rising Sun Fishing Derby.

Only a handful of the registered young people came out, however those few were trying — with some success — in the catch and release tournament hosted by the Rising Sun Chamber of Commerce.

“This is my third year,” said Wesley Truet, 10, from Rising Sun. “The first time I caught six fish.”

Also in the chase for top prizes was Brayden Grove, 12, also from Rising Sun.

“We’re using worms and Velveeta,” he explained of his choice of bait. He caught crappies and sunnies on the worms.

What caught many of the youngsters’ eye was a blue fish swimming in the pond, which the adults guess had been dumped there and was thriving.
