Vermont Business Magazine The new Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) traffic pattern on U.S. Route 2/7 (U.S. 2/7) at the I-89 Exit 16 interchange in Colchester will be implemented overnight. Crews will work through the night tonight, Wednesday, September 16, to install the necessary line striping and pavement markings, uncover roadway signage, and activate the new traffic signals. In the early morning hours of Thursday, September 17, traffic will be transitioned to the new traffic pattern, and the diverging diamond interchange will be functional.

Diverging Diamond Interchange to open at Interstate 89’s Exit 16; traffic pattern to change
COLCHESTER — The Diverging Diamond Interchange is slated to open in mid-September, and drivers will notice a change in how they navigate Exit 16. In the coming weeks, the new traffic pattern will briefly shift vehicles to the left side of the roadway as they travel through the interchange. The design allows drivers turning left onto interstate entrance ramps to do so without crossing oncoming traffic. Once through the interchange, traffic returns to the normal right side of the roadway. Traffic signals will control both crossover points.
