Jimmie Lou’s makes a triumphant return to Cincinnati, and it’s worth the wait

After months of anticipation, award-winning chef Jeff Harris finally revived his New Orleans restaurant Jimmie Lou’s when it opened to the public on Tuesday night. The prior iteration of Jimmie Lou’s opened in 2021 as a stall inside the Oakley Food Hall. It was the first solo venture for Harris, a Louisiana native who first made a name for himself as the sous chef at Emeril Lagasse’s flagship restaurant before heading to the Queen City after Hurricane Katrina. In 2022, he opened his Global South-focused restaurant Nolia in Over-the-Rhine to much fanfare — Harris and Nolia have three James Beard nominations, among many other awards — but customers kept asking when he’d return to his roots.

James Beard-nominated chef talks opening new restaurant in Cincinnati

James Beard-nominated chef Jeff Harris is not done transforming Cincinnati's dining scene. Harris is known locally for Nolia Kitchen , an Over-the-Rhine restaurant that has earned the chef multiple James Beard nods as a finalist or semifinalist. But Nov. 3, he revived Jimmie Lou's , which serves gold standard versions of New Orleans fare, inside the former Razzo space at 1201 Broadway St. in Pendleton. Harris, a New Orleans native who relocated to Cincinnati after Hurricane Katrina, first opened Jimmy Lou's as a walk-up counter inside the Oakley Kitchen Food Hall in 2021. It was named after his great-grandmother. The chef chatted with The Enquirer in the latest edition of Cincinnati Chili Chats. He spoke about Jimmie Lou's, his journey as a chef and, of course, the world-renowned Michelin star system coming to Cincinnati .
