Garfield County Commissioners: Week of May 13th
During this week’s meeting, commissioners approved a 10-thousand dollar grant for new electronic, recording and research equipment for the county’s Recording Office. Garfield County announced the non-profit recipients of their second-quarter discretionary grants. Recipients include Glenwood Springs High Mock Trial team, Roaring Fork Youth Orchestra, Bookcliffs Council of the Arts and Humanities, Rifle’s Ute Theatre Society, the Roaring Fork Conservancy, and Glenwood Springs Middle School.

Arrest of a suspect reopens a Parachute cold case
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Three years to the day of the murder of a Parachute man, the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) arrested a suspect. On May 11th, 2021, the GCSO responded to reports of a male who was found bleeding and unresponsive in his car on Highway 6, just west of Parachute. The man was determined deceased on the scene and was later identified as Wayne Moore, a local man who lived in his vehicle in the surrounding areas of Parachute. Initial investigation of the scene by investigators with the GCSO and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) determined that Moore had been the victim of a homicide and was shot multiple times.

Garfield County gives green light to $27,000 for local nonprofits
Garfield County Commissioners approved $27,000 in second-quarter discretionary grants for local nonprofits during the May 13 county commissioners meeting. In total, there were $33,000 requested in applications. The board of county commissioners had budgeted $120,000 for nonprofit discretionary grants for 2024, leaving $62,000 remaining for applications in the final two quarters of the year.
