Local police chief is the first woman president of the CACP
RIFLE, Colo. (KJCT) - Rifle’s police chief is making history. Deb Funston is now the first woman president of the Colorado Association of Chiefs of Police. Funston was originally hired as Palisade’s first detective before becoming chief in 2015. She moved to Rifle and became their chief of police last year.

Driver seriously injured following Wednesday crash in Rifle
One person was flown to a hospital with serious injuries following a crash in Rifle on Wednesday morning, according to the Rifle Police Department. RPD Public Information Officer Angela Mills said the driver hit a tree in a parking lot while traveling eastbound on East 16th Street. The call came in shortly after 9 a.m.
1,300 fentanyl pills, methamphetamine, $2,000 cash seized during arrest
Investigators with the Special Problem Enforcement and Response Task Force in Garfield County made an arrest and seized a lot of drugs during an investigation on Thursday. Officers seized about 1,300 fentanyl pills, 45 grams of methamphetamine and $2,000.Anthony Toovey was arrested during the investigation. According to Garfield County, Toovey has been arrested four times this year by the SPEAR Task Force and a total of eight times in Garfield County since he was released from the Department of Corrections and placed on parole on Feb. 28.Investigators said additional arrests are expected in this case.
One dead following Memorial Day crash near Silt
A two-vehicle crash on Monday on U.S. Highway 6 just east of Silt resulted in the death of a New Castle male, the Colorado State Patrol said on Thursday. Near 9 a.m. on Monday, a 79-year-old Silt resident driving a Ford F-250 pickup truck eastbound on Highway 6 was taking a turn north onto Davis Point Road when his vehicle was struck by a 50-year-old New Castle resident driving a Harley Davidson motorcycle.

The teenager dialed the Garfield County dispatch twice, first at 6:46 p.m. and then at 6:53 p.m., providing harrowing details of the assault. In the second call, the young caller attempted to retract his accusations while the Colorado Congresswoman, heard yelling in the background, intervened, asserting that her son "doesn't need help."
