LIST: Artists and bands performing at Richmond Folk Festival

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The first group of artists performing at the Richmond Folk Festival in September has been announced.

The festival is celebrating its 20th anniversary and will span from Friday, Sept. 27, through Sunday, Sept. 29, featuring six stages and over 30 performing groups.

Friday’s festivities will run from 6:30 to 10 p.m., Saturday will span from noon to 9:30 p.m. and Sunday will run from noon to 6 p.m.

Artists featured in the festival include the following, with returning artists indicated with an asterisk:

• *Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino, a Southern Italian pizzica tarantata group from Salento, Italy
• John Doyle & the Irish American Music Masters, an Irish group from Chicago, Brooklyn, Bristol, Vermont, Asheville, North Carolina and County Louth, Ireland
• *Junior Sisk Band, a bluegrass group from Ferrum, Virginia
• Lonnie Holley, an Afro-futuristic jazz, funk, and soul performer from Atlanta, Georgia
• Mis Blandine, a Congolese soukous singer from Toronto, Ontario
• Peni Candra Rini, Javanese sindhen from Tulungagung, East Java, Indonesia
• Rancho Aparte, performing Colombian chirimía music from Quibdó, Colombia
• *Trouble Funk, a go-go group from Washington, D.C.
