Reward Raised to $15K for Information About Cat Set on Fire in Richmond

Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The reward has been raised again for information about the cat that died after authorities say it was intentionally set on fire while inside a crate in Richmond’s Southside.

In March, Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC) set a reward of $2,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect(s) responsible. The reward was then raised to $10,000 and on Wednesday, April 10, raised to $15,000.

Richmond Police say the cat was doused with accelerant and set on fire while inside a crate at around 9:45 p.m. on Jan. 13 at the 4100 block of Richmond Highway.

The cat died at the scene and was found to have second and third-degree burns over 60% of its body, according to RACC. Shelter officials say the cat belonged to someone in the area and the owners are aware of the incident.
