Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - A dog has died after being found barely alive in a garbage bag on Buttermilk Trail in Richmond.

Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC) said the 4-year-old red and white pitbull was found the morning of Monday, April 29. At the time, she was barely alive and fighting to free herself from the bag.

According to RACC, officers freed her and tried to keep her breathing on the way to the vet, but she died shortly after arriving.

The dog reportedly had no chip or identification.

In a Facebook post, RACC shared photos of the dog, as well as body camera footage of officers finding her in the garbage bag. Viewer discretion is advised, as these photos are extremely graphic.

Anyone with information is asked to contact RACC by phone at 804-646-5573 or by email at robert.leinberger@rva.gov .

“Please help us find the person(s) responsible for this savage act of cruelty,” RACC wrote in its Facebook post. “If you saw something, say something.”
