Knights baseball wins first of three games at CIU
COLUMBIA, S.C. — The St. Andrews Knights baseball team defeated the CIU Rams 7-4 in Thursday’s game one of a three-game series at Miller Field this week. After a scoreless first inning by both teams, St. Andrews (17-11, 6-8 Appalachian Athletic Conference) led 2-1 after the second and added another run in the third; CIU (10-23, 5-11 AAC) answered with three runs in the sixth to take a 4-3 lead, but St. Andrews had two-run seventh and ninth frames to come back on top and prevail.
St. Andrews beach volleyball scores two wins, secures spot in conference tournament
LAURINBURG — The St. Andrews Knights beach volleyball team had a successful run during a foursome of home matches March 22-23, securing three wins in four matchups. The Lady Knights entered the weekend needing two wins to secure one of eight spots in the Sun Conference Championships on April 5-6 in Bradenton, Florida. Their last visit to the league championships was in 2022.
Knights’ Abdelghafar, Hotaling receive AAC men’s volleyball weekly honors

2 charged with murder in Wagram Street shooting
LAURINBURG — Two suspects surrendered to Laurinburg police Tuesday in connection to a death on Wagram Street. At 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, 26-year-old Antonio Tyrone Ingram and 22-year-old Tyrell Devon Leggett surrendered to the Laurinburg Police Department, according to information released from LPD. Both Ingram and Leggett were charged with first-degree murder, discharging a firearm into occupied property, felony conspiracy, and discharging a firearm in the city in connection with the shooting on March 14 on Wagram Street that resulted in the death of Denver “Mesha” Quick.

St. Andrews men’s volleyball continues winning ways with victory over Bruins
LAURINBURG — The St. Andrews Knights men’s volleyball team scored a 3-1 nonconference victory over the visiting Carolina Bruins Tuesday night with set scores of 25-18, 20-25, 25-18 and 25-20. Hazem Nabil sparked the Knights’ offense all four sets, tallying 22 kills by the end of the match; Hugo Gonzalez-Gutierrez logged nine kills and Deonte Brewer contributed five kills. Dakota Hotaling continued to show his senior leadership, shouldering the Knights’ offensive approach, recording 33 of the Knights’ 42 assists; Alex Vasquez-Sanchez contributed six assists behind Hotaling.

GREENSBORO — The St. Andrews Knights women’s lacrosse team scored its first victory on Saturday with a 15-2 decision at Greensboro College. The NCAA Division III Pride (0-4) struck first with the game’s first goal when Keira Fenyo scored with 1:02 minutes remaining in the first quarter. St. Andrews’ A.J. Price answered 12 seconds later with a goal, tying the game at 1-1; Price scored again in the second quarter with a second unassisted goal to put the Knights up by one. Fenyo responded less than a minute later to knot the score at 2-2, but it was the last Pride goal of the matchup.
