The Rice Lake softball team brought the thunder early, but unfortunately Mother Nature brought thunder, lightning and rain.

After waiting out a rain delay to ready the field, both Warrior baseball and softball teams began play only to be postponed in the first inning as lightning lit up the sky and heavy rain began to fall.

Despite not completing a fulling inning, the softball team had taken a 4-0 lead on Eau Claire North with just one out in the bottom of the first.

After Kamryn Kunz sent the Huskies down in order, it took just one batter for the Warriors to take the lead as Madi Rowe lined a ball over the left field fence for a home run. After one out Rice Lake then loaded the bases for Kunz. She ripped a double into the left-center field gap scoring all three runners to put Rice Lake up 4-0.

Eau Claire North changed pitchers and before the next at-bat could be completed the game was delayed. Rice Lake heads to Eau Claire Thursday as the Huskies and Warriors will complete the postponed game and play a second contest.

On the baseball diamond, Rice Lake and River Falls were scoreless in the bottom of the first when teams took cover in their dugouts and the game was postponed.

Rice Lake escaped a two-out jam in the top of the first. After getting the first two batters out, River Falls had two straight singles with runners reaching second and third on the throw. Pitcher Kalvin Kelsey then got a ground out to first baseman Jack Larson for the third out.

Aaron Hoffman came to the plate for Rice Lake in the bottom of the first but the game was delayed during his at-bat.

The Warriors head to River Falls Thursday to complete the postponed game and play a second game.
