A two-out double set the stage for a walk-off victory for the Rice Lake softball team in its 6-5 victory over River Falls in Rice Lake on Friday.

After giving up the tying run in the top of the seventh, the Warriors had their first two batters go down in order as the game looked like it might go to extra innings. That was until Avery Weinstock lined a ball over the left fielder for a two-out double that put the winning run in scoring position. On senior night, senior Ava Gargulak came to the plate. Down to her final strike she grounded the ball into the hole between shortstop and third base. The River Falls shortstop gloved the ball and fired to first, but the throw was off the mark and skipped past the first baseman allowing Weinstock to sprint home for the winning run.

Rice Lake (10-7, 5-5) had a three-hit game from Emily Kalina while Ava Anderson added two hits. Madi Rowe and Kalina each scored two runs with Anderson and Weinstock scoring the other runs. Kalina drove in two runs, while Emily Saffert had a hit and two RBIs.

In the circle Kalina tossed all seven innings, giving up seven hits, two earned runs and a walk, while striking out five.

The Warriors had led 5-3 heading into the top of the seventh. A home run by Jordan Schwantz brought the Wildcats (5-11, 1-9) to within one. A pair of Warrior errors put runners on the corners with two outs. With River Falls stealing second base, the Warriors attempted to make a quick throw to the shortstop and return throw to the catcher to nab the runner trying to score. Instead the throw home got past the catcher and the Wildcats tied the game.

Rice Lake had gotten on the scoreboard in the first inning as Rowe and Kalina hit back-to-back doubles. Kalina later scored on an RBI ground out from Saffert to put the Warriors in front 2-1. Kalina added another run-scoring double in the second, and Saffert got her second RBI with a base hit to center for the 5-2 advantage.
