Scattered rain showers and storms on Friday won’t thwart warming temperatures for long
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) - Happy Wednesday morning NCWV! We are halfway through the work week and once again the weather is pleasant! We are seeing some cloud coverage as well as some patchy fog throughout our area this morning, that fog will burn off around 9AM and that cloud coverage will leave our area by 11AM! After those few minor weather conditions leave our area we will be left with mostly clear skies across the area and this will continue throughout Thursday as well. Highs today are going to be in the low 80s in the lowlands and the low 70s in the higher elevations. On Thursday temperatures will rise further, getting into the mid to high 80s in the lowlands and the high 70s in the higher elevations. Friday afternoon expect scattered rain showers and storms to enter our area and lower our temperatures slightly. Highs in the lowlands are going to be in the mid 80s and the high 70s in the higher elevations. These storms will remain mostly non-severe with a marginal chance to see some damaging winds and hail, if these severe components happen they will remain isolated incidents. As we get into Sunday and next week our highs will get into the 90s with heat indexes in the 100s. Daniel Niemasz has all of this and more on your First Alert Forecast.
FIRST ALERT: Heat wave arriving Sunday lasts throughout next week
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) - Temperatures are currently on the rise. Some areas were able to reach the low 80s today, but not all could make it there. It’s more likely we see low to mid-80s on Thursday. On Friday, a cold front will glide through the region, bringing a few showers and storms in the afternoon/evening, as well as *slightly* cooler temps. A few storms have the potential to get severe, with strong winds being the primary threat, but confidence in this is low. High pressure will quickly move back in behind the front, clearing us out for Saturday as temperatures dip back to around where they were today. Sunday will be the first day of the heat wave, with temps jumping to the low 90s in the lowlands. Throughout the rest of the week, highs will hover in the low to mid-90s. Humidity will increase as well, pushing heat index values into the upper 90s to low triple digits. We’re not expecting any major rain systems to come and cool us off anytime soon, though stray convective storms are possible each afternoon. Overall, expect the sun to beat down on us as we enter astronomical summer.
