The victim in a Tuesday morning fire at the Lakemill Lodge apartments in downtown Reno has died.

The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner's Office identified Doni J. Rogers, 57, as the victim.

The Reno Fire Department and emergency crews responded to the 200 block of Mill Street at about 10 a.m. after a call about smoke in the building.

The fire broke out in Rogers' sixth-floor apartment, where it was contained. The fire department said something was smoldering within the apartment and filling the room with smoke. There were no active flames.

Emergency crews helped Rogers, who was disabled, out of her unit and she was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center with smoke inhalation. She died later that afternoon, the fire department told the RGJ on Wednesday.

The investigation is still ongoing, and the fire department is working with residents in the building and the medical examiner's office.
