Q&A with Nevada's record-breaking 4x400 relay team headed to the NCAA Championships
The Nevada women's track and field team's 4x400 relay squad is surging at the end of the season. The quartet of Emily Costello, Carolyn Ross, Halyn Senegal and Annalies Kalma qualified for the NCAA Championships at last week's West Preliminaries by running a school-record time of 3 minutes, 33.85 seconds, two seconds better than the previous school record, which the team set at the MW Championship (by six seconds). The 4x400 team has set the school record in three straight meets and is one of 24 Division I 4x400 relay teams across the nation to qualify for next week's NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas.

Kudos to Northern Nevada softball, which keeps showing it can compete at state level
Over the last decade, Northern Nevada has not had much success against Southern Nevada in large-class state championships. Since 2010, the North has won just 18 large-class state titles in the following 16 sports — football, baseball, boys basketball, girls basketball, volleyball, girls tennis, boys tennis, boys track and field, girls track and field, boys swimming, girls swimming, boys soccer, girls soccer, girls golf, boys golf and wrestling. That's fewer than 10 percent of the total titles available.
