For the second year in a row, students from Highland Elementary School in Reedsport, Oregon competed in the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) US Western National Tournament in Sandy, Utah on April 26th – 27th, 2024. This year 15 students competed in the tournament. Last year they had 8 students that competed in the tournament.

The archers that competed this year were: Wyatt Hoile (6th grade), Braden Bailey (4th grade), Brelle Carl (5th grade), Tommy Carrington (4th grade), Kendall Dillahay (6th grade), McKenzie Schuttpelz (6th grade), Adalynn Rush (4th grade), Allison Kaneen (4th grade), Henley Lyle (5th grade), Kellan McDuffy (4th grade), Brielle Pancheri (4th grade), Garrett Renner (5th grade), Hannah Ross (4th grade), Lillian Ross (5th grade), and Adelynn Jones (4th grade).

The Reedsport Archery Club would also like to thank the Braves Boosters Club for their generous donation to help fund the travel expenses towards making the trip to Utah for the 15 archers that competed this year. The archers’ families were very thankful to receive the funds.

The elementary school’s archery class has been held for two years at the school, and has been coached by Coach Eric Hamner. The class takes place 4 days per week and has 41 students in the program. This is currently the only school in Douglas County to compete in the NASP’s program.

The program at Highland Elementary School helps 3rd – 6th graders build character, lasting friendships, and team spirit. It also assists in developing their archery skills, muscle strength, and self-confidence.
