A fugitive who had reportedly eluded law enforcement for 30 years was arrested recently in Ukiah after allegedly driving drunk, the Ukiah Police Department reported. According to the UPD, an officer stopped a vehicle on East Perkins Street at the on-ramp to Highway 101 around 1:35 a.m. Sept. 24 after reportedly observing that the white BMW X6 was “failing to maintain lanes.”

Man Dies After Crashing Down Embankment in Lake County
A Lakeport man died after his SUV went down an embankment near a Lake County recreation area. Sixty-four year-old William Sappington was driving alone on a trail in the Cow Mountain Recreation Area Saturday morning when his SUV went off the trail near Scotts Creek Road. The SUV overturned several times and Sappington was ejected from the vehicle. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time. Sappington died at the scene. CHP are still investigating the cause of the crash but have said that drugs or alcohol do not appear to be involved.

A two-vehicle collision that was reported south of Ukiah on September 23 between a Honda CR-V, a Chevy pickup and a semi pulling a trailer caused major injuries. The crash occurred along Redwood Highway near Hopland around 1:37 a.m., blocking the Russian River bridge. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the accident reportedly occurred because one of the vehicles blew a tire and crashed into another, causing major injuries.
