Reading is getting a new Outback Steakhouse, and the new restaurant is the first of its kind in the area and only the second of its kind in Pennsylvania.

The restaurant at 2789 Paper Mill Road is replacing the chain’s former Woodland Road location.

It boasts a smaller footprint and is designed to reflect a more modern “Aussie” atmosphere.

The restaurant is 4,694 square feet and features a large, centrally located bar inspired by the Great Barrier Reef and a dining room that will accommodate around 187 guests.

Outback described the reimagined interior as having Instagram-worthy artwork including a mural inspired by the community’s deep roots in aviation, created by artist Lindsey Jenneman that features a flying Koala.

The new restaurant will welcome its first guests on Tuesday, May 21 and host a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22.

The new location continues to accept applications for various positions.
