Gov. Tate Reeves gives update on Thursday night severe weather impact
JACKSON, Miss. (WDAM) - On Friday morning, Gov. Tate Reeves gave an update on the severe weather that impacted parts of Mississippi Thursday night. Reeves said one injury has been reported in Rankin County as of now. Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is currently assisting local emergency managers with damage assessments.
Pearl resident describes close call when massive tree falls on house during storms
PEARL, Miss. — Large areas of Rankin County received heavy damage from Thursday’s storms. At least one family in Pearl is counting their blessings. “If it was like 5 or 10 feet to the right, I would’ve been in my bed. I would’ve been laying in bed with a tree in my lap,” said Pearl resident Jace Russell. “I just heard the wind get horrible, and my windows started shaking. Then I heard the tree slowly start cracking. It started getting louder and louder, and then all I heard was a loud pop, and two or three seconds later, it just came down on the house and scared me to death.”
