Is a Cook Out restaurant on its way to Louisville? What we know
A plan to bring popular fast-food restaurant Cook Out to Louisville appears to be revived. A construction permit indicates a 1,500-square-foot restaurant could be coming to 2412 Preston Highway. An $800,000 renovation of an existing building on site, a former Rally's, is planned, according to the permit filed in early March with the Louisville Metro Office of Planning. The filing does not indicate a timetable for the construction or an eventual opening. Messages from The Courier Journal to the business about its plans for Louisville were not returned in 2025. Founded in 1989, the North Carolina-based chain has over 300 locations and is well known for its burgers, barbecue and milkshakes. It first entered the Kentucky market in 2013 with a Richmond location and now has 12 restaurants across the state, the closest of which is in Frankfort. More Louisville restaurant news: Why the 93-year-old Jack Fry's is Louisville's most classic restaurant Cook Out Louisville Inc. bought the property in October 2023 for $530,000, deed records show. The company later bought the adjacent property at 2502 Preston Highway, the former Great Wok restaurant , in April 2024 for $400,000. Louisville has been on the company's radar since at least 2022,
