Wreck on Ga. 365 results in Ejection and Injuries
One person was ejected in an early-morning wreck Saturday on Ga. 365 northbound near Alto-Mud Creek Road. Habersham County E-911 dispatchers received a call reporting the wreck at 6:56am Saturday, April 27. One person was transported emergent by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville, while two others also were transported there by ambulance. Habersham County Emergency Services Engine 12, Med 12, Med 2, Captain 1, and Battalion 1 responded, along with multiple units from the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office. About 50 feet of guardrail was damaged during the wreck. Georgia State Patrol Post 7 Toccoa is investigating.
Rabun County Sheriff’s Office hosting Coffee with a Cop
On May 19, 2024, from 9-11am, the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office will be co-hosting a Coffee with a Cop event at the Dunkin Donuts located at 539 US 441 South in Clayton. Stop by, ask questions, get advice, learn about the ongoing Citizens’ Law Enforcement Academy, all over coffee and maybe a donut.

Hunter Funeral Home announces the passing of Christopher Eradio Mendieta-Silva of Rabun Gap. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at 3pm at St. Helena Catholic Church. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 1, 2024, from 2-3pm at St. Helena Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Rabun Memory Park. The family requested that if you plan to attend the funeral mass, please wear white to show support to the family.
Financial Transaction Card Fraud under Investigation
The Rabun County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a financial transaction card fraud. On April 25, 2024, a deputy spoke to a Rabun Gap man, who stated that he owns a local trucking company and has six fuel cards for his employees to use. He recently noticed transactions that he did not authorize. Purchases were made with a fuel card in California and Arizona totaling $6,529. He said that none of his employees traveled to those states. He told the deputy that he had frozen the fuel cards but needed a report, so he could provide it to the fuel card company in an attempt to get his money back.
