Three Dead, One Local, Due to State Weekend Fires
Three people died in three separate house fires in West Virginia over the past weekend. The first happened in Spencer, Roane County, on Friday evening around 8 p.m. A 67-year-old man died in a fire at his home in the 100 block of Spencer Avenue. Investigators with the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office have ruled the cause of the fire as undetermined but most likely accidental due to an electrical malfunction.
Putnam County Man's Family Awarded $15 Million in 2020 Chemical Plant Explosion Case
Last Thursday, a jury in Kanawha County awarded $15 million to the family of a man who died in a chemical plant explosion in 2020. The man, 42-year-old John Mark Gillenwater II, was an employee at Optima. He died in an explosion at Optima's plant in Belle on December 8, 2020.
