Residents are accustomed to winding down their week and chilling out on Friday and Saturday nights at Founder’s Square with a mixture of activities such as live bands, food trucks and legendary sunsets. Friends and neighbors gather to kick back with a cold drink and catch up while the kids play on the green and do somersaults over on the mound.

This spring, the Babcock Ranch Residential Association (BRRA) Lifestyle team members are busy adding special Saturday events for families to enjoy and keep it local at Founder’s Square.

A wide variety of entertainment options have been planned, from line dancing instructions and a showing of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour film in a “Par-Tay” atmosphere to a mid-day Mother’s Day Delight market this Saturday, May 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with hands-on crafts and a special selfie backdrop.

A Summer Bash is planned for Saturday, June 8 to celebrate summer recess from Babcock Neighborhood Schools with games, bounce houses and more. Residents are invited to bring out their friendly competitive spirit Saturday, June 15 for a Father’s Day event with relay races and games, along with an old-fashioned barbeque from the hot grills of Slater’s.

“As our community keeps expanding, we are planning more events that can serve a larger number of people at a time,” commented Brittany Pinho, lifestyle director with the BRRA. “Our events at Founder’s Square help us do that.”

The highlight of the spring events so far have been local Punta Gorda blues band, The Champ Jaxson Band, featuring a 13-year-old lead singer.

This was not your typical family band!

The audience was astonished when they took center stage on Saturday, April 13 and performed several classic blues and original songs. Lead singer and guitarist Champ Jaxon is a sensation with his deep, whiskey and cigar toned singing voice of a man three times or more his age.

Concertgoers stood up from their lawn chairs and cheered when they realized that weathered adult voice was coming from the diminutive performer with his hat pulled down and covering his eyes.

“He sounds like a much older man who has lived quite a life and had numerous heartbreaks with women, but he’s not. He’s a kid,” Jaxon’s father Nate Winkler said. “When he was very young, we took him to outdoor concerts, and he always liked the blues numbers. I’m not at all surprised that’s what he wants to play.”

“It is shaping up to be a fun summer in Babcock Ranch,” Pinho said.
