PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Four men have been arrested for their alleged roles in a scheme to steal and resell high-value items from retailers, U.S. Attorney Zachary Cunha’s office announced Monday.

Marvin Estuardo Morales De Paz, 33, Abraham Dayger-Enrique, 24, Sebastian Lajuj-Soloman, 30, and Jonathan Josue Amperez-Perez, 31, are accused of working together to defraud The Home Depot stores in several states, according to court documents.

The suspects, all Guatemalan nationals, allegedly went to stores in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Pennsylvania and stole items such as power tools, flooring and electrical wire, Cunha’s office said. At times, they would then try to sell those items back to the store.

Based on the evidence gathered by police, prosecutors believe the group took part in more than 30 thefts.

Cunha’s office said police executed search warrants at homes in Providence and Cranston last week, which resulted in the seizure of roughly $11,000 worth of stolen goods from The Home Depot and Kohl’s, $83,000 in cash, and a 2019 Ford F-150.

Morales De Paz, Dayger-Enrique, and Lajuj-Soloman were arrested in Rhode Island and held in federal custody. Amperez-Perez was arrested in Pennsylvania and will remain in federal custody until he’s returned to Rhode Island to face charges.
