The Crook County High School girls tennis team was scheduled to play in a tournament in Bend last Friday and Saturday, however, rain delayed the tournament so Cascade and Crook County moved their match to Prineville.

As a result both teams were no longer in the tournament. The Cowgirls rolled past the Cougars 6-2. In addition, the two teams played a fifth doubles match, which was also won by the Cowgirls.

In singles action, Sami Ramos blanked Sophia Mendez Marines 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 singles to get things rolling for the Cowgirls. At No. 2 singles, Callie Winebarger kept things rolling for the Cowgirls taking a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Cami Martinka, while Kim Cordero Cruz of Crook County defeated Esther Sumpter 6-1, 7-5 at No. 3 singles. Kristianna Boyum then outlasted Cascade’s Giulia Favetta 7-5, 7-5 to finish a Crook County sweep of the singles matches.

The Cougars fared better in doubles play. After Crook County’s DeLaney Engstrom and Haven Housley defeated Kate Withers and Rachel Suelzle at No. 1 singles, Cascade finally won a match when Samantha Sandall and Kahryn DeLamarter slipped past Crook County’s Aubrie Olson and Mikayla Giard 6-4, 7-5(5) at No. 2 doubles. Cascade also took the No. 3 doubles match with Ava Stone and Janoah Higgins rolling past Abbigail Pack and Tayah Hagensee 6-1, 6-3.

Crook County’s Marvella Villagomez and Rubi Velasquez slipped past Cascade’s Emily Henderson and Olivia Steel, 6-4, 7-5 at No. 4 doubles. The Cowgirls’ Cloee Kirby and Eleanor Klann then edged Mandee Lopez and Samantha Leeth 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 in the final scored match of the day.

Tuesday the Cowgirls were back in action hosting Madras in conference action, rolling to another 6-2 win.

Once again Ramos rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win, this time over Yashira Chavaro of Madras. Winebarger fell behind early, but came back to take a hard-fought 7-6(3) 5-7, 10-5 victory over Mia Mitchell at No. 2 singles before the White Buffalo’s Arely Alonso defeated Boyum 6-3, 7-6(6) in No. 3 singles play. Cruz then defeated the White Buffalo’s Olyvya Pacheco 6-2, 6-1 in No. 4 singles play.

The Cowgirls also won three of the four doubles matches. Engstrom and Housley struggled early, but finished strong as they defeated Heidi Sedano and Idaly Romero 7-6(3), 6-2 in No. 1 doubles play. Olson and Giard then edged Myah Pope and Hayley Burts in No. 2 doubles action 4-6, 6-3, 10-6.

Jenny Park and Nancy Quinto won the final match of the day for Madras defeating Villagomez and Velasquez 6-2, 6-2.

The match closed out with Pack and Valerie Ruiz taking three sets to edge Ana Olivares and Diana Melo Reyes 3-6, 6-3, 10-2 in No. 4 doubles.

The Cowgirls host Molalla on Thursday at 4 p.m., then host Sherman County and Irrigon on Saturday in what will be a full day of tennis, with both boys and girls teams competing.
