Sacramento Japanese restaurant group opens two fan-favorite eateries in Davis
A Japanese restaurant offering ramen and all-you-can-eat sushi has arrived to Davis. Fukumi Restaurant Group combined its two popular eateries, Fukumi Chaya x Momo Katsu, and Pier 50 Sushi, in one building in Davis. The combo offers, as the owners said, “the best of both worlds.” “From fresh sushi to comforting ramen, your new favorite spot is nearly here,” read the announcement on social media. The combined dining spots at 226 F St. are part of the Fukumi Restaurant Group, a collective of Japanese restaurants throughout the Greater Sacramento area. Alongside Fukumi Chaya and Pier 50, the group owns Fukumi Japanese Noodle House, It’s Sushi and Young’s Teriyaki. Pier 50 Sushi has two other locations in the Sacramento area. Its flagship is at 1735 Arden Way. There is a location in Folsom’s outdoor Palladio Shopping Center at 330 Palladio Parkway and Fukumi Chaya’s original brick and mortar is open in the Pallado Shopping Center as well. Some of Pier 50 Sushi’s most popular rolls are the Henry Roll with shrimp tempura, spicy crab mix, torched white tuna, green onion, spicy mayo, lemon and eel sauce, and its Washington roll, with salmon, avocado, pickled burdock root, salmon and yuzu ponzu. Hawaiian barbecue spot with a ‘little aloha' in each dish expands to Folsom
A Hawaiian barbecue chain with several Sacramento-area locations has expanded to Folsom. DQ Hawaiian BBQ is now open at 2770 E. Bidwell St., serving Hawaiian-style comfort food. The restaurant’s website describes each dish a having a “little aloha” in it. “Some of the best moments happen over a full plate. The first bite after a long day. An extra chair pulled up for a friend. A family dinner where nobody has to choose the same favorite,” according to its online profile. “That’s the spirit behind DQ Hawaiian BBQ: island-inspired comfort, generous plates, and a warm welcome.” The chain has two other locations in the Sacramento area, one in Elk Grove at 9160 E Stockton Blvd. and the other in Carmichael at 7423 Fair Oaks Blvd., but it got its start in 2024 in Del Paso Heights. DQ Hawaiian BBQ serves an assortment of classic barbecue plates. Its most popular dishes include a classic grilled Hawaiian BBQ chicken, a Chicken Katsu plate served with sweet sauce and a mixed BBQ plate with short ribs, chicken, and barbecue beef. The restaurant’s menu also lists the Loco Moco, a Hawaiian comfort dish of a hamburger patty, brown gravy and fried egg on white

Cinnamon Roll Cafe Preparing to Open in Midtown Sacramento
Cinnapop Cafe is preparing to open at 611 16th St. in Midtown Sacramento, with a soft opening planned for November. The cafe is owned by husband-and-wife team Tola Vong and Chhayleang Tang, who began selling their baked treats from a pop-up tent at Sacramento farmers markets earlier this summer. The cafe is small, at about 500 square feet, so the couple is focused on making it feel warm and homey, like a place where customers can walk in and feel at home. Their goal is for the cinnamon rolls to taste homemade.

My 5 Favorite Wineries Near Folsom
People ask me all the time where they should go wine tasting. After years exploring, tasting, pouring at winery events (will work for wine), and judging in the Foothill Wine Competition, I’ve narrowed it down to my five favorite wineries near Folsom. Each one does something no other winery around here does quite the same way, and together they cover five different wine regions, all within an easy drive of town. So, what do I look for in a winery? Yes, great wine is a must, but that’s not all. Hospitality, the setting, price, and events all come into play. All of these figured out how to deliver.
